CARIAN TRAIL - BAYS OF APHRODITE

THE CARIAN TRAIL - BAYS OF APHRODITE

Far away from the big centers of tourism, the peninsulas of Datҫa and Bozburun in the southwest of the country have long been a paradise for sailors and individualists, and now we hikers will discover it thanks to the new route. An endless number of green bays (Bükü) with hidden beaches and idyllic fishing villages line the coast. Rugged mountains turn into rolling hills full of olive and almond trees. Turquoise sea blends beautifully with the colors of the dunes. Still in deep sleep are the historical-cultural places, lighthouses, and fortifications of the Carian and Dor - we wake them gently step by step.

TOUR ITINERARY

Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Dalyan (45 min.).

2nd day: finally at the sea
Drive via Marmaris to Hisarönü (2 hours). Entry hike with magnificent views of the Coast of the southern Aegean to Orhaniye. Continue on the Datҫa Peninsula in our guesthouse in Hayitbükü with a lovely location at the sea (about 1 hour).

3rd day: Hidden ancient city Knidos
From the village of Cumali we walk to the bay Murdala, then along lonely bays to the ruins of Knidos. Spectacularly located at the tip of the peninsula, the city was famous in antiquity for its 2 harbors, its theaters, and the Aphrodite statue.

4th day: beach day

5th day: All natural
Our route from Knidos runs along the coast, through the maquis and the fields of Yazikoy. The magnificent panorama extends over to the Greek islands of Tilos, Nissiros, and Kos. Finally, the wide beach in Palamutbükü awaits us.

6th: On to Bozburun
We walk right from the pension along the sea and over hills to the edge of the fishing village Datҫa. After 1 1/2 hours drive we reach the nostalgic, small-town Bozburun. Our hotel is only accessible by boat or 10 minutes of walk.

7th day: At leisure

8th day: Carian splendor
The castle ruins near Turgut offer the first magnificent view of the day. Then we descend to the monumental grave of a Carian princess and pass a small waterfall through a valley up to the village of Bayir. We enjoy a refreshment under the plane tree, which is estimated to be 2,000 years old.

9th day: To the east coast
First a tea in Bayir, then it goes through the lush green landscape, ruins on almost every hill. We are again accompanied by picturesque views on the way down to the ancient city of Amos on the east coast.
