LIKYA YOLU - THE LYCIAN WAY CONTINUES
Likya Yolu - we continue in the trekking paradise! The western route meanders wonderfully between the turquoise coast, mountains, and pastures - the Lycian Way, the most famous path in Turkey. Ancient sarcophagi line the path, dreamy bays alternate with cliffs and long beaches. Xanthos, Patara, pre-Christian cities and just behind it, between the pines, paradisiacal twelve kilometers of the shimmering beach of Patara. Once again, Lycia captivates with its unique mélange: a millenary history, a magnificent hiking trail and the charm of the Mediterranean.
TOUR ITINERARY
1st day: Flight to Dalaman
Arrival and transfer to Fethiye (3 nights).
2nd day: To the dream beach
Our first tour starts in the ghost village of Kayaköy, passing a tiny rock monastery, until we find the famous bay Ölüdeniz, one of the landmarks of Turkey, at your feet. The sea invites the sea for swimming.
3rd day: Cliff
Above the Ölüdeniz Lagoon, we hike to the village of Kirme, overlooking the paragliders at the 1,975-meter-high Babadag Mountain and uphill through oak shrub forests. Finally, we reach Faralya, 300 m high above the butterfly valley. What a view!
4th day: The Bay of Kabak
We start at the cliff of Faralya, get over hills and fields to the beautiful pebble beach Kabak, where we take a swim break. After a climb, we reach Alinca and drive to our hotel in Patara (4 nights).
5th day: Breathtaking views
Today we walk from Alinca along the almost 800 m high karst cliffs overlooking a beautiful bay to the village Gey, then through the mountains to Bel. The bus brings us back to Patara.
6th day: The ancient world beckons
From Bel we have only a long descent through a rocky landscape with wide sea views to Gavuragili. From here it goes uphill, then down to the ruins of Pydnai, a Lycian settlement that once served as the upstream sentry of Xanthos and Letoon. At the Karadere beach, the sea invites you to swim again.
Day 7: Rest day
At the 12 km long undeveloped dune beach of Patara.
8th day: History and hiking
First, we drive to the ancient city of Xanthos and visit the old capital of Lycia. On the way from Cavdir to Akbel we walk along the old aqueduct of Xanthos and pass some original villages. Short drive to the next location Kalkan (2 nights).
9th day: Architectural wonder
A comfortable hike leads from Patara to the remains of the aqueduct of Delikkemer. Here we see the ancient Lycian's impressive technique of channeling water from one hill to the next through a hollow. The stage ends in Kalkan.
10th day: Mountain villages
Above Kalkan, the route starts up to the alp of the hamlet Bezirgan, almost 800 m high on a plateau. After lunch, the descent is on an old mule track. We are rewarded with expansive views down into the turquoise sea. Then we drive to the pretty coastal town of Kas (3 nights).
Day 11: In the very south
Today we drive to 750 m altitude and head east. It continues with a wonderful panorama over Kas and the small offshore islands to Yeniköy, where our bus is already waiting for us.
12th day: In the backcountry
The imposing view of the peaks of the high Taurus accompanies our longest hike. From the mountain village, we follow a forest path down to the Hacioglan brook. Here begins an old path through strawberry tree forest to the ruins of Phellos. An ancient cult city from the 5th century BC, whose rock tombs and sarcophagi are scattered in nature. The descent ends in the village Cukurbag.
13th - 14th day: Gulet and sea
In about 2 hours we drive to Ölüdeniz to our typical wooden ship (Gulet). The anchors up, we go to the sea! On both days we explore the most beautiful bays on the way to Göçek. Relaxing from the sundeck we enjoy the Lycian coast.
Day 15: Journey home
Transfer to the airport and return flight.
