ST. PAULS TRAIL - TREKKING WITH ALL SENSES
Whether Apostle Paul took exactly this path during his missionary journey from Perge to Antioch Pisidia, we do not know exactly. One thing is certain, he enjoyed this picturesque landscape: rugged massifs, deep gorges and quaint villages. Through resinous fragrant pine and cedar forests meander historic paths that stood the millennia. We are invited into the garden of locals for a tea, we taste the freshly baked flat bread overlooking the flowering fruit trees; behind it rise the snow-capped peaks of the Taurus Mountains. Here you will find Turkey with its lonely and lovely nature, here the hikers do not cross each other's path.
TOUR ITINERARY
1st day: Flight to Antalya
Arrival and transfer to the hotel (1 night).
2nd day: The Bozburun massive
From Antalya, we drive to Demirciler and are right in the middle of Taurus villages, pristine pine trees, cedar landscapes, and steep mountains. Here we lace up the hiking boots: an old path winds on the shoulder of the Bozburun massif. The descent first leads to the abandoned Alm Kapakli, then via Roman paths to the aqueduct of Selge and down to the ancient Pisidian town of Selge. After visiting the ruins we drive to our pension in the Köprücay valley (2 nights).
3rd day: Ancient city Selge
Via old, historic Roman paths and past bizarre rock formations, the path climbs from the river in Köprülü Canyon up to the ruins of Selge, accompanied by views of the up to 100 m deep, wild and romantic gorge. In 20 minutes it goes by bus down to the pension.
4th day: Roman paths, quaint villages
Along the steep slopes, at the eastern foot of Bozburun, the historical path winds through rustic farming villages and ends in Çaltepe, where our next accommodation is located. We are warmly hosted there by a family (3 nights).
5th day: In the Köprülü National Park
Near Beskonak we first visit the old Roman bridge from the 2nd century AD over the river Köprücay. Here begins our hike through small settlements past deep gorges to Köprülü Canyon. Our way ends directly in Çaltepe at the pension.
6th day: Canyons, hiking, and swimming
From Çaltepe we hike along the mountain and river with great panoramas to the village of Degirmenözü. Towards the end of the tour, we have the opportunity to swim in the clear waters of Köprücay. On the way, we treat ourselves to a picnic on the shore overlooking Roman rock tombs. The hike ends at another crystal clear source of the river.
7th day: Rocky paths
Today we drive north to the village of Kesme. One of the most beautiful stages of the Paulusweg awaits us. Steep canyons, imposing cliffs and ancient Roman paths accompany us to the village Kasimlar, our location in a family pension (1 night).
8th day: Alpine paths, pastures, and ruins
Another great section, this time it goes up in the alpine regions of the Taurus Mountains. The route leads over old paths of the mountain farmers to Alm Tota. From here we drive to Adada and visit the ancient Roman city. Unfinished buildings of the small theater, the market, and well-preserved temples were buried and thus spared earthquakes. Our destination is Egirdir on the lake of the same name, known for its fjord-like bays (3 nights).
9th day: Relaxing day
Today you can take a bike ride, a boat trip or a visit to the hammam of Egirdir (optional).
10th day: In Kovada National Park
A scenic hike begins in the village of Sipahiler, climbs over several hills, crosses large plateaus, and brings us down an old trade path down into the Kovada valley to the village of Serpil.
11th day: So close to the sky
Open pasture and meadow landscape offer the wonderful panorama during the ascent of the Sivri mountain, where we reach up to 1,750 m altitude. Here, during the break with flatbread and cheese, we enjoy the colossal view of Egirdir lake deep below. After that, we reach our hotel in Antalya for the last night. 2 1/2 hours of transfer.
12th day: Say goodbye
Transfer to the airport and return flight.
